Corn Gluten is the organic equivalent of "Weed and Feed". A by-product of corn syrup processing, corn gluten is a good source of nitrogen and can prevent weeds from germinating.  I like the product as a fertilizer but is nowhere near as effective as synthetic herbicides for weed control.

On the other hand, you won't get wierded out when kids run barefoot across your lawn.

Added 4 loads of home made compost, made bamboo bean, tomato, and cucumber trellis, and topped off with my neighbor's grass clippings.  Squirted organic animal repellent around the perimeter (milk, eggs, dish soap). The yard will be untended for two weeks except for water as we go on a family vacation.  The grass clippings are supposed to hold water, cool the soil, and suppress weeds.
